Community Service Activities

"One World"
Our martial arts program reaches far beyond the walls of our dojo. Our community starts with each other, and through effort and involvement reaches to many people beyond our sight and knowledge, but not beyond our reach.

Over the years, Piscataway Martial Arts families have been involved in numerous fundraisers and community activities.

Breast Cancer Awareness (October 2016)​
  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
  • Instructors wore pink belts and t-shirts to help raise awareness.
  • Raised $242.50 through generous donations;  Money was donated to the Susan G.  Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Blanket & Linens Drive (January 1 - 31, 2015)
  • 12 bags of blankets, comforters, sheets, and other linens were collected and distributed to local homeless shelters and emergency response facilities
Coat Drive (November - December 2014)
  • Collected 75 coats, 10 pairs of gloves, 5 scarves, and 3 winter hats for distribution to local shelters
  • 2 families donated brand new items
Food Drive (November 2014)
  • Collected 4 boxes of cereal, 25 boxes of pasta, 5 cans of vegetables, and 1 box of cake mix for distribution to local food banks and soup kitchens

Elijah's Promise Better World Market Volunteering (October 2014)
  • A team of volunteers provided help at the Better World Market in Somerset, NJ
  • The group helped put away products; cleaned countertops, floors, windows, and dishes; vacuumed, took out garbage, and helped restock the market
Domestic Violence Awareness and Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraisers (October 2014)
  • October is both National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month
  • Instructors wore pink belts and t-shirts to help raise awareness.
  • Raised $124.00 through generous donations from families who attended classes, which were donated to Women Aware, Inc of New Brunswick, NJ and the Susan G. Komen organization

Piscataway Relay for Life (May 2014)
  • Team Name: Warrior Spirit
  • Raised over $600 through donations from families at PMA, friends, relatives, and businesses to donate to the American Cancer Society
  • Fundraising activities included Name-Art drawings from Assistant Instructors, Board Breaking, and craft work
  • The team performed katas and a self defense demonstration at the 50-yard line of the football field

Sock and Sneaker Collection for Haiti Earthquake (February 2010)
  • Collected usable, lightly worn sneakers and packages of new socks for shipment to people in Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake
Fundraiser for Padang, Indonesia Earthquake (September 2009)
  • Raised money through donations to support earthquake affected families in Padang, Indonesia
  • The patch for our uniforms as well as the Piscataway Martial Arts flag is embroidered by a family business in Padang whose relatives are are volunteers in Piscataway Martial Arts
Coat Drive (December 2008)
  • Collected lightly-worn coats, jackets, hats, and gloves to donate to the FISH Organization
Food Drive (November 2008)
  • Collected canned foods, pasta, and cereal to be delivered to a local food bank
